Former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius.

This is a special event, with the presence of four ambassadors and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue. The investment promotion event was held by FLC Group at Trump International Hotel (Washington D.C., USA) on June 26, attracting hundreds of leaders from Government agencies, financial institutions, investment funds, businesses and individual investors in the U.S.

Following the success of seminars in Singapore, Japan and South Korea, this event is aimed not only at promoting products and services of FLC Group but also at introducing Vietnam quality and tourism to the world.

Present at the event are Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ha Kim Ngoc (who has just been appointed as Vietnamese Ambassador to U.S.), Vietnamese Ambassador to U.S. Pham Quang Vinh, former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear, Vice President-Operations of U.S.-ASEAN Business Council Elizabeth Dugan, Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific and India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Dinesh Keskar, and FLC Group’s Chairman Trinh Van Quyet.

Government leaders and diplomats present at the event.

Government leaders, speakers and FLC Group leaders deal with a lot of questions related to fields of cooperation into FLC Group, operation orientation, procedures to invest in FLC real estate projects, and the operation of Bamboo Airways.

Spectacular growth

In 2017, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc became the first ASEAN government leader to visit the White House under the new administration. In the year, President Donald Trump also chose Vietnam as his first destination of visit in Southeast Asia, being the first President of the U.S. to do so in his first term.

“So, the Comprehensive Partnership relationship between Vietnam and the U.S. is developing on the positive momentum, especially in terms of trade and investment with spectacular growth”, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue stressed.

He also said that the Vietnamese Government would create the most favorable conditions for foreign investors. “We regard your success as our success. Vietnam is proud of young, dynamic, creative private businesses which are ready for comprehensive integration into the world. I appreciate the initiative of FLC Group to hold the event today, in order to promote investment as well as to introduce the national image to the world,” the Deputy PM told in his speech.

Sharing the same viewpoint, Vietnamese Ambassador to U.S. Pham Quang Vinh highlights the potential of cooperation between the two countries.

“Ranking in the top five countries with the highest number of visitors to Vietnam, the U.S. is also the biggest source of visitors to Vietnam in the America Region. In 2017, 614,100 visitors from the U.S. spent their holidays in Vietnam”, the ambassador noted.

Mr. Vinh believed that there is vast potential for bilateral cooperation, and the business communities of the two countries will play an important role in cementing the bilateral relationship. The success of economic and trade cooperation will establish a solid basis to promote the comprehensive partnership towards sustainability, long-term and mutual benefits.

“In the spirit of serving the country's economic development, the Embassy of Vietnam and other representative offices in the U.S. will always accompany and support the strengthening of cohesion between the business communities of the two countries.” Mr. Vinh concluded.

Meanwhile, FLC Group’s General Director Tran Quang Huy expresses strong confidence that Vietnam is exposing great opportunities for domestic and foreign investors, given the country’s fastening economic growth, with 12 free trade agreements signed and four agreements under negotiation, along with stable socio-economic environment.

An interesting Vietnam

A big deal drawing great attention is the contract worth US$5.6 billion on June 26 between Bamboo Airways, wholly owned by FLC Group, and Boeing on purchasing 20 787-9 Dreamliners.

Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue comments: “This illustrates clearly the economic-trade-investment relationship between the two countries.”

According to Mr. Ted Osius, less than 10% of Vietnam’s citizens have ever flown, so aviation is growing very rapidly.

“I’m bullish because of the industrious energy of the Vietnamese people, their determination to be successful in the world, and their fervent desire to make their children’s lives better”, he said.

The event attracts individual investors, financial institutions, investment funds and businesses in the U.S.

Among the first U.S. diplomats working in Hanoi, Mr. Ted Osius gives interesting comparisons to illustrate the spectacular growth of Vietnam economy, including tourism.

“22 years ago, when Hollywood made the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies,” producers asked to film in Ha Long Bay. They ran into so many obstacles and so much red tape, they decided to film in Thailand. Bond films attract tourists, so it was a missed opportunity far beyond what was immediately lost in local production expenses.”

“Contrast that experience to 2016, when director Jordan Vogt-Roberts decided to film “Kong: Skull Island” in three locations in Vietnam. Officials in Hanoi and in the provinces bent over backward to make the filmmakers, cast and crew feel welcome. The shots of Ha Long Bay are like none ever seen before.”

“I visited the set in Ninh Binh to talk with the producers, director and cast.  They loved their time in Vietnam”, Mr. Ted Osius said.

Mr. Ted Osius is bullish about the future of Vietnam’s aviation industry.

He told that he rode his bike all over Vietnam and found that travel and tourism are booming, not only in the famous places such as Ha Long Bay, Hanoi, Danang, Ho Chi Minh City, but also in new locations like Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, etc.

“I have biked in all of these spectacular locations and, as it happens, FLC group has beautiful resorts in each of them. I mentioned Son Doong cave and the rugged beauty of Quang Binh province. FLC Group has a spectacular Beach and Golf resort in Quang Binh, and a brand-new hotel,” he noted.

“Building up prosperity”

In the framework of the event, many questions about investment procedures in Vietnam are raised.

Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific and India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Dinesh Keskar.

Dealing with golf questions, FLC Group’s Chairman Trinh Van Quyet said that currently having 20 golf courses across Vietnam, FLC Group is seeking partners to develop golf tourism, especially designers and investors to make unique golf courses which will be venues for the U.S.’s golf tournaments in Vietnam. The group is focusing to develop resorts with one to ten 18-hole golf links of international standards.

Regarding aviation services of Bamboo Airways, Mr. Quyet affirmed: “We will offer 5-star services, but will also have budget packages for passengers travelling to FLC resorts”.

About the commitment between Bamboo Airways and Boeing, there are questions about the strategies of FLC Group on the path to reach the world market.

Mr. Quyet said that FLC Group, with 20 golf courses across Vietnam, is seeking partners to develop golf tourism.

“Our long-term vision is to connect Vietnam to key markets within North Asia, Europe and North America via long-haul flights. We have a desire to becoming a well-known airlines not only in Vietnam but also in the region. We are fully aware of our mission to improve the image of Vietnam by building up the image of our business in the international arena. Bamboo Airways expects to be the first Vietnamese airlines to have the First Class, raising the local aviation market to a new height”, Mr. Quyet said.

Aiming at serving investors and expanding business network in the U.S., FLC Group announces to open a representative office at 1155 F Street NW, Suite 1050, Washington, D.C. 20004.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear.

Closing the event, Former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam David Shear said that he have many years of working as an ambassador dedicated to investment call, but this is the first time he works with a Vietnamese business who takes the initiative to go outside to call for investment.

“A strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam will make greater contribution to the Indo-Pacific region. I hope FLC Group and Bamboo Airways will together set up their prosperity after this event, and I’m grad of joining the seminar today”, Ambassador David Shear concluded.
